Pompey ITC 11 A-Side
Pompey in the Community is offering Year 11/12 boys the opportunity to continue their education and also train and compete at the highest level. The Football Development Scholarship is aimed at elite level 11-a-side players wishing to play in the premier football under 19 development league of professional clubs, whilst having access to a state of the art interactive learning platform to gain a recognised qualification. This is the second year that PitC has offered this unique opportunity for the two year full-time course, building on the successes of the first year, both on the field and academically.
The current squad of 18 players attend the Pompey Study Centre on a daily basis to study for the BTEC Level 3 extended diploma in sport, assisted by a tutor from VLUK. There is also the opportunity to gain FA qualifications and valuable work experience with Pompey in the Community. The diploma is equivalent to up to 3 A Levels and provides excellent exit routes to further education at university or scholarships abroad. The afternoon sessions are taken up with training and a weekly gym session. The squad play their games midweek and compete against other professional teams from Chelsea, Fulham, Tottenham and Birmingham to name but a few. Each game is filmed so that every player can be analysed and evaluated, to help improve playing performance. The team are currently sitting mid-table and looking to improve on their good start to the season.
Craig Pearce, PitC’s Head of Coaching said, ‘I am very pleased with the way the Football Development Scholarship has turned out. We work closely with the boys, their parents and the PitC staff to make sure that they keep on track both with their classroom work and on the playing field. Let’s hope they can continue to perform as well as they have done so far this season.’
