Adventure – Away Residential
Each day young people will be challenged in different ways undertaking activities such as climbing, kayaking, and coasteering. They will face individual challenges but have the support of team mates to help them overcome any fears they may have. No team will make it through this demanding experience, without mastering the art of communication and encouraging one another with making lifelong friends along the way.
Your Future – Home Residential
The second week is based closer to our local community. Individuals and their teams will face the initial challenge of staying in accommodation whilst budgeting and catering for themselves- a real taste of independence. During this week teams will undertake a different workshop each day in order to learn skills that may help them with social action projects. These workshops could be based on any of the following:
• The Media
• Sports Coaching
• The Performing Arts
• Wood Work & Carpentry
• Food Tech & Cookery
• Art & Textiles
By partaking in these workshops individuals and teams will discover and learn more about the local community, get involved in some volunteering and work together to begin formulating the social action project. At the end of the week each team will have a clearer understanding of their community and how they can make a positive difference to it.
At the end of it all, get dressed up for the NCS graduation ceremony, where you’ll be recognised for your achievements and even get a certificate signed by the Prime Minister. It doesn’t stop there though. As a graduate you’ll have access to loads of other opportunities and the chance to venture overseas with the International Citizen Service.
Make a Difference Projects
It’s time to give something back – but what you do is up to young people! We will ask them to work in their teams to produce some ideas for a project that they would like to run. We want them to think about what the benefits are, who benefits and finally, how they are going to run the project. They will need to consider promoting the event and generating interest around the project. Once they have planned and promoted the social action project – then it’s time to deliver! The time this takes and the dates it takes place are not set, as all projects will differ. What we can say is that young people feel AMAZING having given something back to the community.
