Former England and Premier League goalkeeper, David James MBE, is set to officially kick off efforts to collect and reallocate good quality football boots at Utilita Energy’s Football Rebooted collection box at Fratton Tesco Extra, Portsmouth.
Utilita Energy is joining forces with award-winning charity ‘Pompey in the Community’ to launch Tesco’s first ever football collection box on Saturday, 18 January – ahead of the home match against Middlesbrough.
Pompey’s mascot, Nelson the Dog, will pose for fan selfies and anyone donating their pre-loved footie boots will also get the chance to win merchandise signed by former Pompey legend, David James.
Since its launch in 2021, the successful Football Rebooted campaign has already collected and reallocated thousands of quality football boots, saving hard-pressed families a small fortune and helping to reduce landfill and carbon emissions.
Anyone with spare boots can already deposit them in the dedicated collection boxes at any of the local Utilita Energy Hubs – located in Gosport, Shirley and Newport, Isle of Wight – and from next month there will also be a collection box at Fratton Tesco Extra, Portsmouth.
Anyone requiring football boots, including individuals, families, clubs or schools can simply reach out to their local collection point to check what sizes are available before coming to collect them.
There’ll be plenty of brand-new football boots being purchased as Christmas presents right now, so this is a call for people to donate the boots they are replacing, as there are plenty of local families who would love to receive them. Your donations will not only help young footballers in the area, but you’ll be doing your bit for the environment too!
