At Pompey in the Community, we’re passionate about helping young people grow through the Premier League Primary Stars programme. From tackling social issues to sparking ambition and teamwork, here’s how local pupils are making a difference.

Leesland Junior: Food Parcels for the Homeless

Leesland Junior pupils stepped up this winter, creating food parcels to support homeless people in the local area. The project not only helped those in need but also inspired personal growth, teamwork, and creativity.

This made me feel very happy because we were helping people in need. It also made me feel very joyful, but we are also helping in need and just helping people out there that need help. Dakota and Daisy May, Leesland Junior pupils.

The project embodied the school’s values of love, courage, and respect, proving that small actions can have a big impact.

Kirk Hughes: Inspiring Through Sport

When motivational speaker and amputee athlete Kirk Hughes visited local schools, he showed pupils what resilience and ambition look like. His inspiring workshop, followed by a handball tournament, had every child smiling and motivated to chase their dreams.

The festival offered a great opportunity for skill-building, teamwork, and fun and the children all came away with a smile on their face and a sense of accomplishment. Charley Clarke, Class teacher at St Johns C of E Primary.

Show Racism the Red Card: Tackling Discrimination

At Fratton Park, 80 pupils from 8 schools came together for an important workshop with Show Racism the Red Card. The session tackled racism head-on, teaching children about respect, equality, and the power of inclusion.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and your team for a truly inspirational afternoon. The children did not stop talking about it all the way back to school. The speakers were absolutely fantastic, knowledgeable and brilliant with the children embracing every answer given. We hope, as a school, to be invited again next year. Trudy Sargeant, Teaching staff at Wimborne Primary.

This event highlighted the importance of standing together against discrimination, leaving a lasting impression on every child who attended.
