Kings Academy College Park have been named the Premier League Primary stars March Spotlight School, recognising the positive impact of the programme across both the Spring 1 and Spring 2 terms.
During Spring 1 we delivered a range of interventions, PE support with class teachers, Anti-discrimination workshops and a girls football after school club. The Pe support with class teachers has assisted with planning and preparing for Pe lessons as well as increased the confidence in class teachers Pe delivery.
Kings Academy class teacher Miss Heard puts it like this;
‘Seeing some behaviour management strategies and organised set ups has helped me organise my lessons better and allow my children more freedom and leadership with their activities’
The English interventions were delivered to year 3 children and the pupils have shown improvements in key reading skills, including fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. Regular, targeted support has helped to build confidence, with the children becoming more willing to read aloud in confidence to their classmates.
Year 6 received the Ant-discrimination workshops. The children engaged positively in anti-discrimination workshops and have demonstrated a growing understanding of key themes such as equality, respect, and inclusion. Pupils have shown increased awareness of different perspectives and are becoming more confident in discussing important topics and real life experiences.
The girls attending the girls football club have shown excellent enthusiasm and commitment. Participation has been consistently high, with children demonstrating increased confidence in both their skills and teamwork. The girls have made clear progress in key areas such as passing, ball control, and game awareness. They have also developed a better understanding of rules and tactics, becoming more willing to take part in matches and support one another.
Premier League Primary Stars Joint Coordinator Patrice Link, praised the impact of the programme at the school, saying:
I’m extremely pleased to see the energy from all the children and teachers across all the interventions, Pe support, workshops and girls football. A personal highlight for me was listening to the discussions taken place in the Ant-discrimination workshops and seeing lots of girls take part in our girls-only football session. It’s been brilliant to see how the girls in the school have come willing to learn and now want to join local teams and PITC community sessions outside of school.
