What is Walking Football?

Proudly sponsored by Powder Monkey Brewing Co Walking football is a slower-paced version of the beautiful game we all love to play and watch, designed to make football accessible to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, walking football offers a fantastic opportunity to stay active and enjoy the camaraderie of team play, all without the intensity of a full-speed match.

The game is small-sided, with no running (on or off the ball), very little contact and kick-ins instead of throw-ins. With less stress on the body and no real sudden change of direction or movements, the game allows the participants to play without apprehension.

Older people in particular have seen many benefits, including lower heart rate and blood pressure, less fat, more muscle and more mobility.

As well as offering health benefits, Walking Football offers social benefits – the opportunity for participants to meet new people, prevent isolation and create interaction for individuals and small groups.

Tours

Participants will have the opportunity to attend walking football tours. Previous years saw the team head to Mallorca for an international tournament.

Socialising

Our weekly sessions are held at The John Jenkins Stadium, home of Pompey in the Community, on the state-of-the-art 3G pitch right in the heart of the city. This modern facility provides the perfect setting to keep fit, develop your football skills, and connect with others who share your passion for the game. It’s not just about the physical activity; it’s about the friendships you build and the sense of community you become a part of. With a bar onsite too, the socialising doesn’t have to stop after the session ends.

Monday 16th September will be a free open session for anyone to attend for females aged 40+ and our males aged 50+

After the initial taster session if the demand is there then we will be running this as a weekly session which will be paid in advance in small blocks.
