Henley’s Pompey in the Community journey began in a simple way, through our Football Holiday Courses. What started as casual participation quickly turned into something more, as his talent and attitude earned him the opportunity to be invited into the Development Programme and represent the Pompey on a more regular basis.

Over the years, Henley has developed significantly, with clear improvements in key areas of his game. His resilience, dribbling, and passing have all strengthened, helping him grow into a completer and more dependable player within the squad.

One moment stands out above all others in his journey so far, winning the Hampshire Cup. A proud achievement for any young player, it represents the hard work and commitment he has put into his development over the years.

As Henley now reaches the end of his Pompey in the Community JPL journey, there is a sense of emotion around his departure. It has been a major part of his life, shaping not only his football but also his experiences growing up within the game.

From a parent’s perspective, Henley’s progress has been just as meaningful. Over time, he has matured into a solid team player, someone described as reliable, loyal, and dependable both on and off the pitch. The programme has helped him develop discipline and a stronger tactical understanding of the game, giving him tools that go beyond just playing football.

But beyond the football itself, what stands out most is his continued enjoyment of the sport and the journey he has taken with his teammates. Watching him grow alongside other players, from young lads into young men, has been a hugely rewarding experience for his family. Along the way, they have also valued the sense of community within the programme, meeting other parents and sharing in the team’s development.

Henley will take the next step in his development this September by joining the Pompey in the Community BTEC programme, combining his commitment to football with his studies. See you in September Henley!
