In our BTEC programme, we’re proud of every student who walks through our doors, but every so often, someone comes along whose journey truly stands out. Grace is one of those students.

Grace joined us three years ago to begin her BTEC studies after a year of playing in our U16 JPl squad. Sadly, like many young people navigating both academic demands and life’s personal challenges when leaving school, her first year wasn’t smooth. Grace faced struggles with her mental health, and there were moments where continuing her studies felt almost impossible. Grace reflected on the time saying ‘ I was happy if I even got out of bed, for me that was hard to do’

But Grace didn’t give up.

With determination, she began to seek support, open up about her experiences, and make small but powerful steps toward change in year 2. With time, encouragement from all of the PITC staff and friends, and a growing belief in herself, Grace slowly turned things around.

Not only did she complete her BTEC, she transitioned into our degree programme and quickly began to excel. Her transformation over the past two years has been inspiring. Grace has thrown herself into her studies, committed herself to personal growth, and worked very hard on the training pitch to improve her football ability.

We are thrilled to announce that Grace has been awarded a scholarship to study in the United States. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it’s a result of her hard work, resilience, and belief in the possibility of a bright future—even when things felt darkest.

Grace’s journey is a reminder that success doesn’t always come easy, and that the most meaningful achievements are often born out of the hardest battles. Her courage to confront her challenges head-on, her openness in discussing mental health, and her willingness to grow and learn have not only led her to this incredible new chapter—they’ve also inspired those around her. As she prepares to head across the Atlantic and begin this exciting next stage of her education, we know she’ll continue to thrive. Grace, we are so proud of you!
