Let’s separate the myths, fear and misinformation from the uncomfortable truth about knee health.

When it comes to our knees, there’s certainly no shortage of advice.

You may have been told that knee pain is simply part of getting older. That running will inevitably damage your knees. That arthritis means you should stop exercising. Or that surgery is the only answer when things become painful.

But how much of what we hear about our knees is actually true?

And how much is based on outdated advice, misunderstanding, fear or misinformation?

At our upcoming event, “How Much of What You’ve Been Told About Knees Is Actually Nonsense?”, we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the most commonly held beliefs about knee health and separating fact from fiction.

Meet Ian McDermott

We’re delighted to welcome Ian McDermott MB BS, MS, FRCS(Orth), FFSEM(UK), one of the UK’s leading knee specialists, to explore these questions.

Mr McDermott is the Founder and Managing Partner of London Sports Orthopaedics, Professor Emeritus at London South Bank University and a pioneer of custom-made knee replacement surgery in the UK.

He is also the Founder and Past-President of the UK Biological Knee Society and a leading expert in meniscal allograft transplantation.

With extensive experience in sports orthopaedics and knee surgery, Ian will bring his expertise to an accessible discussion about what we really need to know about our knees.

Challenging the myths around knee health

Knee problems can be confusing. There are often conflicting opinions about exercise, injury, arthritis, treatment and surgery — and it can be difficult to know which advice to trust.

This event is an opportunity to step back from the noise and ask some important questions.

What actually causes knee problems?
What can you do to look after your knees?
Which commonly repeated warnings deserve a second look?
And what should you really know if you’re experiencing knee pain?

Rather than relying on fear or assumptions, the evening will focus on understanding the evidence and having a more informed conversation about knee health.
