Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School has been named this month’s Premier League Primary Stars Spotlight School, celebrating the schools outstanding engagement and commitment to supporting pupils’ personal development through sport.
The school holds a special place in the heart of the programme’s Joint Coordinator, who attended Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School from Year 3 to Year 6. Returning to deliver sessions and support teachers has been a “hugely rewarding” experience, offering a chance to give back to the community that helped shape their own journey.
Throughout the term, the Premier League Primary Stars team has worked closely with staff and pupils across the school. All three Year 3 classes, Endeavour, Beagle, and Golden Hind, received support in their PE lessons, with both teachers and pupils showing growth in confidence.
In addition to PE support, two Year 5 groups took part in Football Maths interventions, an approach that combines numeracy skills with the excitement of sport. The sessions have helped pupils understand how mathematical concepts are applied in real-life sporting scenarios.
Year 6 pupils also took part in important Anti-Discrimination workshops. These lessons encouraged thoughtful discussion around fairness, respect, and inclusion, with pupils demonstrating impressive maturity and understanding.
One of the standout successes this term has been the girls-only after school football club. The sessions have seen high levels of participation and talent, helping to inspire the next generation of female footballers. Several participants have even progressed into our Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) and Advanced Development Programme. A significant achievement and testament to their hard work.
A major highlight for both staff and pupils was the “Being a Pro” experience delivered to Year 3. Designed to recreate the matchday buzz, pupils were able to imagine themselves walking out as Pompey players before using their senses to create detailed, imaginative writing pieces inspired by the experience.
Reflecting on the term, the Joint Coordinator said:
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to return to my old school and contribute to the pupils’ development. The team here has been incredibly welcoming, and seeing the children grow in confidence and enjoyment has been truly inspiring.”
The Premier League Primary Stars team look forward to continuing its partnership with Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School, supporting pupils both on and off the pitch as they build skills for life.
