Run your own charity match and support the work we do every day at Pompey in the Community

First off, thank you for choosing to support Pompey in the Community by running a charity football match! Whether you’re planning a friendly game with mates or a large community event, your effors make a real difference to our work.

This toolkit is designed to help you every step of the way – from booking the pitch to setting up fundraising pages, promoting your match and making it a day to remember.

Step 1: Where to host your match?

You’re welcome to host your charity match or tournament at any suitable venue, but we’re proud to offer the John Jenkins Stadium, our fantastic home base.

Please note: There are internal costs associated with hosting a match at the John Jenkins Stadium (e.g. staffing, pitch maintenance, cleaning), so if you’d like to use this venue, we kindly ask that you set a minimum fundraising target of £500 to cover the costs and still raise money for us.

We’ll do our best to support logistically, but please understand that we may not always be able to donate raffle prizes or provide free staff time for every event.

Step 2: Decide how you’ll raise money

Here are a few tried-and-tested methods to help reach (or exceed!) your £500 target:

  • Player entry fees – ask each player to pay a fixed amount to take part, e.g. £10-25

  • Minimum fundraising pledge – each player can pledge to raise a certain amount, like £50-100, through friends, family, or their workplace

  • Spectator tickets – sell entry tickets for friends and family who want to come along and cheer from the sidelines

  • Mini Challenges or Raffles – half-time crossbar challenge, penalty shootouts or raffles can bring in bonus funds (just check with us first if you’re hosting at the John Jenkins Stadium

Step 3: Set up your fundraising page (with Enthuse)

To get started with fundraising, you’ll want to create your own page on Enthuse, our official donation and fundraising platform.

Here’s how:

  1. Head to our Pompey in the Community Enthuse Page
  2. Click “Fundraise for us”
  3. Choose “Organising your own event”
  4. Fill out your match details – name, date, venue etc.
  5. Add a photo or your team crest for a personal touch
  6. Share the page with players, supporters, and on social media

Step 4: Plan the day

Use this checklist to keep things running smoothly:

  • Choosing your date and venue
  • Set your fundraising target
  • Book your pitch (contact us early for John Jenkins Stadium availability)
  • Recruit teams and volunteers (think turnstiles, stewards, bucket collectors)
  • Organise kit (it doesn’t have to be fancy, just two distinct colours will do)
  • Make sure everyone has appropriate boots – see your John Jenkins Stadium booking for guidance on what you can and can’t wear on the pitch
  • Create your Enthuse page
  • Promote your match (we can help share it)
  • Organise extras (food raffle, music, photographer)
  • Collect funds and say thank you to everyone who helped

Need help on the day?

If you think you’ll need support with stewarding, volunteers or bucket collectors, please make this clear as far in advance as possible.

Many of our team members and volunteers are already busy with matchdays, sessions, and events across the community 7 days a week, so early notice helps us help you.

We’ll do what we can to support you, just keep us in the loop.

Promoting your match

Use social media to build buzz!

Share your fundraising page with regular updates: team announcements, training videos, and player shoutouts.

Make sure to take @pompeyitc in your posts and stories or share on Tiktok.

If you need logos or messaging guidance, we’re happy to help – just reach out to [email protected].

Final Word – You’re Making a Difference

Running a charity match isn’t just about the football – it’s about giving back, creating community spirit, and helping us support people across Portsmouth.

Whether you raise £500 or £5,000, know that your effort truly matters.

We’re incredibly grateful you’ve chosen to play for Pompey in the Community.
