Mark your calendars for Monday, September 16th, as we’ll be kicking things off with a free open session. It’s the perfect opportunity to come along, try it out, and see if it’s for you.
Walking football is a slower-paced version of the beautiful game we all love to play and watch, designed to make football accessible to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, walking football offers a fantastic opportunity to stay active and enjoy the camaraderie of team play, all without the intensity of a full-speed match.
The game is small-sided, with no running (on or off the ball), very little contact and kick-ins instead of throw-ins. With less stress on the body and no real sudden change of direction or movements, the game allows the participants to play without apprehension.
Older people in particular have seen many benefits, including lower heart rate and blood pressure, less fat, more muscle and more mobility. As well as offering health benefits, Walking Football offers social benefits – the opportunity for participants to meet new people, prevent isolation and create interaction for individuals and small groups.
If we see a strong turnout and interest, we plan to make this a regular weekly event with sessions booked and paid in advance.
In addition to these weekly sessions, we’re looking to enter national competitions within the respective age brackets. However, we welcome participants of all ages to join our regular sessions.
Pompey in the Community have moved to secure a sponsor for playing kits with training and travel kits optional if you would like to purchase one at a later date.
As part of this exciting new programme, we’re exploring the possibility of an international tour, which we hope to update you on by the time our weekly sessions are underway.
Don’t miss out—register below and join us on September 16th. We can’t wait to see you there!
