What started as a simple after-school club has turned into a six-year journey of growth, commitment, and leadership for Harry

Harry first got involved in the Pompey in the Community football pathway back in Year 3, attending sessions at Whiteley Primary. It wasn’t long before his potential began to show, and by Year 5 he had earned a place in the JPL Development Teams.

Since then, Harry has developed not only as a player but as a person. Reflecting on his progress, he recognises how far he has come, particularly in his confidence and understanding of the game. “I have become more confident and can read the game better,” he explains.

His development didn’t go unnoticed. Harry went on to become captain, a title he has proudly held for five years. The role has clearly shaped him, both on and off the pitch. As his parent shared, stepping into leadership helped him grow in confidence and maturity, highlighting just how important the programme has been in his personal development.

There have been plenty of standout moments along the way. Among Harry’s proudest achievements are back-to-back Hampshire Cup victories, memories that will stay with him for years to come. But beyond the trophies, it’s the shared experiences that have meant the most. A tour to Holland last year stands out as a particular highlight, giving the team a chance to bond and create lasting memories together.

For Harry’s family, the journey has been just as rewarding to watch. While the cup wins were special, they are equally proud of the team’s spirit and the way the players have supported each other throughout their time together.

Harry’s story is a testament to what long-term commitment to Pompey in the Community can achieve, not just success on the pitch, but confidence, leadership, and lifelong memories off it.
