On Friday 26th November Pompey in the Community organised the local round of the EFL Girls Cup 2021.The competition took place at Goals in Portsmouth with 20 schools from across the local area taking part.  This was the biggest local tournament that Pompey in the Community have organised and just shows how popular the girl’s/women’s game of football is becoming.

Girls from Year 7 at schools from Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, Waterlooville, Emsworth and Liphook took part, with each school being placed in one of 4 groups of 5 teams, playing a round robin format competition, with the top team from each group going through to the semi-final.

The schools in the semi-final were: Portchester Community School v Priory School & Springfield v Bohunt.  And with the final being played between Priory and Springfield.

The competition takes place all over the country with local and then regional finals, resulting in a national competition featuring the best teams from the regionals.  Priory School came out on top and will now represent Portsmouth in the regional finals against other schools from, Swindon, Oxford, and other areas in the south, with this competition being held in Swindon in early January 2022.

Well done Priory School and good luck in the next stage of the competition.
