Pompey in the Community’s Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator, Sam Cleare, recently attended the U11 Primary Stars Girls Cup southern area finals at AFC Stoneham with Portsmouth FC representative school, Wallisdean Juniors.
The players were perfect representatives of both the club and their school. The team from Wallisdean Juniors earned their right to represent PFC at the event by winning a local tournament at Goals in Portsmouth at the end of February and qualifying for the regional finals.
Finals day arrived and the girls played some absolutely incredible passing and possession based football. The team was awarded a very well deserved ‘Be Ambitious’ award for their efforts at the final presentation, too!
Unfortunately, after group victories over Southampton and Yeovil, the girls were sadly knocked out in the quarter-finals by eventual tournament winners Bournemouth. The Wallisdean team ended the day with two friendly victories over Reading and Crawley to send the girls home on a winning note.
Pompey in the Community would like to say thank you to the Premier League Charitable Fund and Saints Foundation for organising a great tournament on a beautiful sunny day.
The Premier League Primary Stars programme looks to improve English and Maths skills, whilst improving PE and PSHE lessons, educating teachers and pupils alike.
