Funded by the Office of Hampshire Police & Crime Commissioner, OPCC: ‘My Pompey’ is a free project delivered by PitC across the city. Targeting young people in Portsmouth aged 12-18, ‘My Pompey’ provides regular weekly football activities in Milton, Hilsea and Somerstown whilst also giving the participants access to 1-1 monitoring with our staff.

Since it originated in 2020, OPCC has worked with over 450 young people within Portsmouth and provided over 100 hours of 1-1 mentoring with PitC mentors. Alongside the regular football sessions, our participants have enjoyed attending Portsmouth FC fixtures, anti-discrimination, careers and life skills workshops. The football sessions are supported and  regularly attended by local police and community support officers, looking to break down barriers and create relationships with young members of the local community.  This is achieved through pitch side workshops and a fixture between participants and members of the police neighbourhood team in Portsmouth, is planned for later in 2022.

All sessions are free to attend and you can simply turn up and register at the venue with one of our coaches, no pre-booking is required.

Taylor Monk, PitC’s Head of Community Development and Programmes, said, ‘OPCC funding has been essential to be able to provide really tailored work in areas identified with large anti-social behaviour by local agencies, in which we’ve worked incredibly hard to engage and inspire young people into better life decisions whilst maintaining regular physical activity. Over 94% of our participants have highlighted the improved impact our sessions have had on their ability to deal with difficult situations and begin to consider future education and employment.’
