Portsmouth Ladies Walking Football Team have recently returned from a successful tournament held at Stoneham Lane Football Complex in Eastleigh.

The tournament was organised by Hampshire FA as a trial event for the new Hampshire Women’s Walking Football League.

Pompey kicked off their first match of the tournament against Eastleigh. Despite enjoying the majority of the ball, and having more shots on goal, their efforts were not rewarded, with the match ending 0-0 thanks to some heroics from the hosts’ goalkeeper.

However, Pompey’s attacking threat paid dividends in the second fixture, with the Blues netting five goals, scored by four different players, against Bournemouth Red.

The final two fixtures were closely contested, both ending 1-1 against Bournemouth Black and Fleet respectively.

Sue Davey, from Walking Football, praised Pompey as a ‘well co-ordinated team playing for each other’, and highlighted the players’ ‘positive contributions’ during the tournament.

She added: ‘We are looking forward to playing in the New Women’s Walking Football League in Hampshire.

‘It will be the start of more seasons to come.’
